Stablecoins and USDC explained

Learn why FRENT uses USDC and why token contract and network still matter.

What a stablecoin is

A stablecoin is a blockchain token designed to track a reference asset such as the US dollar. FRENT uses USDC amounts denominated in dollars so a merchant can request familiar values without accepting a volatile token as the settlement asset.

The ticker is not enough

Tokens are identified by both network and contract address. Different tokens can share the same symbol, and a bridged variant can differ from native USDC. FRENT verifies the exact configured native USDC contract for the merchant terminal.

Network-specific balances

USDC on Base and USDC on Polygon are separate onchain balances. FRENT does not bridge or swap between them. The customer also needs the correct gas asset on the same network.

Stable design does not remove custody, contract, network or issuer risk. Merchants remain responsible for securing the receiving wallet and managing the USDC after settlement.
